Last Fall Poem by martin elbin

Last Fall

How many days are left to me
now that the years have left the tree
and since the fall has come to pass
when will the sap dry up at last?

What is the count of acorn fall
how many will bear seed in all
and of the fruits of seasons late
will any last to meet my fate?

Where do the leaves of terms abide
now that the winds have swept them wide
and far away from home and root
while putting down their tender shoot?

When will the winds forgive my grasp
how many branches flag at last
and must this shelter hewn of bark
wither, waste into the dark?
