Landlocked Poem by April Lane

Landlocked

Let me have water weeds for hair
And blue eyes deep as pools
Let me whisper to the waves
And teach the salmon schools

Take these ungainly feet away
And give me fins of gold
Give me lungs that need no air
And skin that feels no cold

A sunken ship will be my home
Its hold my hideaway
Alone and unmolested by
The brazen light of day

I will bid farewell to the stars
The fields and forests green
To wander coral citadels
And grottos submarine
