Labyrinth Poem by Maura Herboldsheimer

Labyrinth

All she remembered was shouting
In the frightening woes of her sleep
Misadventures, trials, the battles
Memories she dared not to keep

She remained evasive while conscious
Going about her normal day
But every night the dreams grew stronger
Until all she could see was the fray

Then having realized what become her
She set out to banish her mark
And she defeated, feeling triumphant
But then lo, she woke up to the dark

Everything then turned to menace
She began to lose her grip on the reel
Nothing would come back like she expected
No more, oh how she wanted to feel!

Security would now soon sink her
When she'd reach and the illusion would fade
'I need to see you one more time
Please come back to me, ' she bade.

Delerious with the thought of existence
And how she did not make the cut
She set herself to finish the battle
No more would she be in this rut!

Halt! Dear girl, there’s something in your way
The evidence of all your good deeds
You may have fought wars for the sake of the demons
But no longer, for you are now free!

I promise I give no misgivings
And truly you shall soon repent
As for me, I am not but a seeker
Of truth, now with my time well spent.

Carry on, and you'll be none the weaker.
