Krishna's Meera Poem by mohanan viswambharan Nair

Krishna's Meera

Meera, Krishna's Meera is dancing in the street!
The people who gather there are bemused,
as she was like a queen till the event.
She was in the veil ever before, for not to be viewed by the public.
Even her husband waited until dark for a favour from her.

Now she is in mad love with Krishna.
In the mirth of her singing and dancing,
She doesn't know her sari is stripping down.
Meera sings in the street, as nobody has ever heard
The people gathered there place fingers at the nose tip.

Meera looked at her husband and cried out,
'Krishna is my Lord, you are a substitute.'
She should never set foot on the state, was the royal order.
Poor Meera is now leaving for ‘Mathura.'
People who gathered, there look down being sad.

Meera enters the temple by singing in the rain.
She dances as the people of Mathura have never seen.
To the temple where women have never trodden,
Meera treads, through the crowded devotees.
‘It is against custom', trying to check her, the people shouted.
‘Go out, Go out' the priest of the temple cried out.
For decades, women fear to come here.'
Male devotees gathering there are also afraid of bad omen.

Meera laughs louder and sings louder.
She sings madly in love with the Lord.
Her affection to her lord has yet been counted.
She said to the priest, 'You and all here are mere women,
but Krishna is the only man in the world.'

She walks to the place of deity before them,
dancing and singing deeply, still it is raining outside.
They see pure love in her eyes, as she walks towards the lord.
A storm comes there, all of a sudden from nowhere.
It prevented their view for a short time.
Meera coils into the deity and slowly vanishes in the blue smoke.
The priest and devotees stood there being more pious.
Her songs still hover the temple in echoes.
Meera sings and dances in mad love with her lord.
