Knee Or A Noose Poem by Deidre Dixon

Knee Or A Noose

Running in hopes to be free
Only to be captured and hung from a tree
By some who felt they had superiority
And they did it by using a noose

They tried loving each other
To them love had no color
But some felt she shouldn't be with a brother
So they hung him from a tree with a noose

There were mutilations, lynchings and torcherings
Brutal beatings and people hanging from trees
By some who thought they were the master breed
All done with bare hands or a noose

Now, some things happen in a different way
They do not end up with a noose per se
Though some would still like to have it this way
Instead they gain authority for misuse

You get profiled and pulled over by the cops
Gotta get outta the car and frisked for a routine stop
Better hold those hands high or you might get popped
Or you might be pinned down with a knee

You get wrongly accused for a crime you didn't commit
Even with DNA they refuse to acquit
In your face they might as well spew proverbial spit
What's the difference, a knee or a noose
