Kepler's Theory About You Poem by Luce Darwin

Kepler's Theory About You

The Planets move in ellipses,
and people do too.
Close to you life moves
at a brilliant speed,
to the point where
every light, no matter
how small, burns my eyes.
And as I cannot stay there for long
without burning up in heat,
I have to leave you,
and everything slows down,
until every light no matter
how bright, is dim and sad.
Yet I know that in the darkness
you are sitting there in your melancholy
and you watch me with
a crude grin,
as I reach out to find your skin
in the dark.
And after months
I do find you again,
and life starts to move
at painfully, dangerously,
high speeds again.
Though life here is painful
and short,
my biggest fear is that
one day I will spin off
my axis and never
come close to you again.
