Keeping A Promise Poem by Nidhi Rajesh Kumari

Keeping A Promise

I told him I could give up my speech just for a minute's talk.
I told him I could catch a wheel chair after an hour long walk.
He turned to me and tried to reason out
That our being together was blissful, no doubt.
But, he loved someone already a lot
And couldn't hurt her at any cost.
Then, he turned his back to me
Walked away as I could see.
Just then I picked up a blade,
Cut my tongue and on the road I lied,
A car came, though not wanting to hit me,
But the road wasn't that wide.
So, I have no speech or legs,
It all happened as I promised,
He talked to me for a minute and
Walked along, just as I wished.
