Keeping A Promise Poem by Ray Hansell

Keeping A Promise

Rating: 5.0

Long ago he vowed his love
A promise to be true
Now as he remembers back through the years
He did what he said he'd do

He never loved another woman
She was the only one
He never lived one day in life
Ever feeling lonely

But now as the years are getting late
She's become very sick and fragile
Each passing day makes it clear
The she's slowly losing the battle

She's bedridden because she can no longer walk
She spends most days just sleeping
Each minute of every day
His promise to her he's keeping

He will not leave her bedside
He sits there holding her hand
He made a promise years ago
By that promise he's going to stand

He told her he'd always be true
To her, for all her life
He vowed the only one he'd love
Would be her, his forever wife

So, now as her days grow darker
He's right where he belongs
Sitting there next to her
Listening to her favorite songs
