Katrina Poem by Daniel Nairn

Katrina

Rating: 4.5

Here am I, I try to help,
Attempt to clear away the mud.
Yet ev'ry movement shovels more
Of precious lives mixed with the muck
Into the trash fore'er.

Here am I, I want to help.
I carry broken glass outside;
It shatters like its owner's heart
Destroying mem'ries ever more
Go back inside; repeat.

Here am I; I won't give up!
Though tearing someone's house apart
I clear a space for life afresh,
Igniting hope for future's day:
New life will come at last.
