Just Being Friendly Poem by Francis Duggan

Just Being Friendly

You feel attracted to her in the strongest way
And every-time you meet her she smiles and says good day
You think that she fancies you but you have got it wrong
Just because she is friendly doesn't mean her feelings for you are strong

Seems like you do not understand that charm and love are not the same thing
Such joy to your day a smile and hello from her to you does bring
She is just one you happen to know of but does not know
A pretty young woman who possess the bright inner glow

Who greets everyone she does meet with a smile and hello
That she is an outgoing friendly person happens to be so
You are one of those males who thinks that a woman who is friendly is attracted to you
It does not mean that she loves you if she says how do you do

Since friendliness from love you cannot discern
About love and women you are one who has much to learn
She is just being friendly to you and nothing else more
To many others like you this has happened before.

There is a trite bit of sense of punitive judgment on somebody here who merely wants to feel special to somebody expressing some charm; granted, taking anything from desire and too deep to the heart is a dangerous thing. And I've heard of too many stories where a fixation on something that was just generalized charm have become a significant problem. this is an obsession described. Perhaps.
