Just A Lot Of Words Poem by Reid Laurence

Just A Lot Of Words

Peace
A word we know
But never knew
A way
We'd like to think
But barely do
And time
Again we say
It's up to you

Religion
Like stiff boundaries
Hem us in
Making us
Take many sides
That neither win

Borders
We call sovereign
Cut off meaning
From each state
Stifle people
From each other
Filling them
With greater hate

Customs
Have become
Just harassment
At each gate
While the people
And their countries
All but give
Into their fate

Ethnic
Is a word
Like a weight
About the neck
Wear it
As a yoke
And it worsens
Every step

All these words
We say we know
Use them freely
Rarely show
Any feeling
Or real use
But some disease
Or grand abuse

Will we find
A state one day
And shape new words
Of mortal clay
Describe in fact
And feature man
Create anew
To build, to plan
