Juliet's Thoughts Poem by Courtney Wills

Juliet's Thoughts

I wonder
what Juliet thought about
the second before she
plunged the knife in her stomach.
Did she think about
two nights prior
when she first saw
her dear Romeo's eyes,
smoldering with passion
and longing when they locked
on her own?
Did she remember
lounging on the edge
of her balcony,
thinking of him while
stargazing,
then watching him,
confident and unafraid,
as he sneaked into the house of his enemies
and whispered to her
his undying love?
Did she reminisce over
their last night together
when their bodies
came together as one whole
in sync
to forget their problems
for just one night?
Did she think about
waking up tonight
to find
the one whom she
risked everything for
on the floor next to her
with poisoned lips
his body laying still
with his hand still warm on hers?
Did she ever,
for one millisecond,
wonder if he was worth it?
