Jefferson's Dreams Poem by Sandra Osborne

Jefferson's Dreams

Rating: 3.3

Reasons and rights,
Times of the day,
OK to kill,
But not to pray.
Our schools
Teach peace,
Freedom, and love,
Just definitions,
Just spell the words.

What happened here
To Jefferson's dreams?
'Blacks are idiots,
Kill em'' we scream.

Our children
They see
The way we behave;
So we don't let them think,
We make them all slaves,
We keep the status quo,
Just one more day.

Reasons and rights,
Times of the day,
What happens to life
If man turns away?
Does our science
Bring us closer, or farther apart?
And did we forget about love
Cause we learned how hate starts?
