It's Ok To Be Sad Poem by Edward Clapham

It's Ok To Be Sad

It’s OK to be sad, for then happiness is given its proper perspective;
although it might not seem that way right now, when up feels only
a bit less down.

Down there is not the best place to be, at least when you’re there; but
it gives your feet a place to stand while the hunger pains of sorrow
churn you up inside.

Look at this way: come what may, up there beckons and calls, a land
of sunlight that you’ll explore in due time, when your tears stop making
the steps all slippery.

And when you walk again on pastures green, with a warm back and
breezy stride, keep a little of the sadness in a box inside just to check on,
now and then.

It’s a reminder of Will Shakespeare’s sage advice to disengage the
gears between the ears (I know it’s hard) : Nothing is good or bad but
thinking makes it so.
