It's Funny How We Grow Up Poem by Thomas Shelton

It's Funny How We Grow Up

It's funny how the person we thought we would be never happens
How it takes so long to figure out what's important to us

The things we thought we cared about slip past us
We spend our lives thinking we know ourselves
After all that's all we have

It just kind of happens one day
One day you find yourself doing something you never though you would
A subtle change in likes and interests

A small wind of change blows through your window
Every breath taken brings new ideas
Sometimes it's hard to tell if we're still the same person

Memories still tell us who we were
We even look back on them with great fondness
However none of those things would mean the same today

The hardest part is realizing we're not the same
Just like friends the people we are come and go
Never knowing who will take their place
