Isolation Poem by Renu Beri

Isolation

Isolation definitely seems to be
The sole purpose of such as we,
The human race,
That has terrors to face,
Reason- its isolation,
In life's every station.

Nature we have destroyed,
Huge forests felled,
Hills and mountains razed,
Rivers channelled and dammed,
Animals harassed,
To near extinction.

‘Masters' we ourselves call
Determined to destroy all.
On this lonely planet,
We will soon be alone,
Unless we change our attitude,
Saving the earth from callous rot.

Among ourselves too,
We are completely separate,
Billions lonely and aloof,
Under heaven's roof.
Egoistic maniacs galore,
Competing to survive ever more.

Companionship and trust,
Have been long put to rest,
They entail sacrifice and nobility,
Sharing and responsibility,
Emotions long gone,
One lives for self alone.

Countries have marked limits,
Boundaries and ideologies,
Suspicious of neighbours,
Spend billions on safety measures,
Superpower each nation,
Of corruption and disruption.

Religions obsessed with fanaticism,
And their gods and godheads,
The essential foundation the same,
Methodology different,

Result- Insane murders, aimless war,
Rapes and hedonism soar.

The irreverence will continue
In a soulless, ungracious society,
Unless spirited transformation,
Eliminates unholy isolation,
And destroys mankind's obsession,
With, ‘I, me, myself.'
