Is This Our Punishment? Poem by Shannon Hughes

Is This Our Punishment?

Have your ever thought
That maybe we are already dead?
That this place we call Earth
Is our punishment?
After living our real lives
We were condemned to a
Lifetime on Earth
The ones who die young
Are the lucky ones-
The ones who didn't screw up
Their previous lives
The ones who live to a ripe old age
Well, they must've really screwed
Something up, for such a
Long sentence to Earth
The suicidals-
They're the geniuses
They understand that this is Hell
And they've found the loophole-
End it yourself
Because if this is our punishment
It can only get better, right?
