In The Open Poem by Suzanne Hayasaki

In The Open

Bare yourself for me.
Let me see you as you are.
Let the air caress your skin.
Let me take you in.

You are beautiful, you know
In all your years
With all your scars.
Your contours are art.

Let me paint you as I see you.
Let me sculpt you as you feel to me.
Let me turn you inside out.
Let me show the world your soul.

There is nothing as alluring as character.
There is nothing as enduring as poise
In the face of pain
In the aftermath of loss.

Stand there in the sunlight
Let the shadows fall across your face
And I will preserve the expression that I see
In those eyes that see me so clearly.
