In Simplicity Poem by Elna Nel

In Simplicity

let us plant grass my lord
in semi-shade a cord
buck bay vygies
for color just to see
something grows and truly
all is not dead not over yet

at night we play card
to pass the time
we play until numbers
sprout in your eyes
in all our years together
you've never been
as brave as now my love

we smell water and growing
grass's refreshing flavor
as summer's evenings break
winters in week after week
with you trying to climb
the walls that are too smooth

come plant with me pink
geraniums and cactus red
before the night we get
and dare to laugh
in the heat wave of a country

where work is scarce you white
bowing again to people's
malignancy and incomprehension
in the pit of unemployment
you are so beautiful to me my love
