In Memory Of Strider Poem by Francis Duggan

In Memory Of Strider

When his dog Strider he did have put down it was such a sad day for Paul
Faithful till the end he was such a good mate and till his own end he'll recall
The fawn bull terrier cross staffy his friend for many years but every thing comes to an end
Though the love of one's dog is an unconditional love your dog surely is your best friend.

'Twas Genevieve told me Strider was deceased her eyes they were flooded with tears
With her border collie him she often did walk she had known
the old dog for years
Athletic Rupert always trotted ahead old Strider with him did not race
The old dog was always so calm and relaxed and his fastest was a steady pace.

To save him further suffering Paul had him put down for his dog he did the right thing
He would never more do the things dogs love to do old Strider had lived his last Spring,
Old Strider who seldom barked and never did bite a child with him could safely play
He asked little more than a good feed and a pat and he rested for most of the day.

'Twas Genevieve told me Strider was deceased she did seem so tearful and sad
She had known the old fellow for many years and she plainly was taking it bad
To save him further suffering Paul had him put down for his dog he did what was right
'Twas easy to please him a pat and a feed he was always so relaxed and quiet.
