I Want To Be Free Poem by Aminath Neena

I Want To Be Free

I want to live again
I want to be free
Free to inhale the magic
Of the sunrise once again
Free to taste the ripening fruits
Hanging on the coconut palms
Their sappy juice
Trickling down my chin
Again and again

I want to live again
I want to be free
Free to feel the coolness
Of the ocean breeze once again
Free to feel the softness of the greenery
Draped around the lush scenery
Their velvety foliage
Brushing along my skin
Again and again

I want to live again
I want to be free
Free to plunge into the deep sea
Once more, again
So that I may perish or learn to swim
As the first streaks of burgundy rim
Thatches the eastern horizon
With the arrival of a new kin
This time, again

I want to be free
I want to be born again
