I'Ve Travelled Far Poem by Francis Duggan

I'Ve Travelled Far

I've travelled far though others have travelled further
From the spot where their life journey began
And one might say I've done my share of travelling
But in truth I am not a well travelled man.

I do live far from Millstreet in Duhallow
In this great Southern Land of the grey roo
I often wake to the laughter of the kookaburra
And the harsh squawks of the white cockatoo.

I've travelled far but others have travelled further
And I live far from Hibernia's windswept shore
And I've not seen any of the World's seven wonders
But others have travelled further than me and seen more

Of the bigger World that is out there
And there is so much in the big World to be seen
And not everywhere is an Earthly Utopia
And not everywhere is looking lush and green.

I've travelled far from the old fields of Duhallow
Though in fancy I can hear the babbling rill
Flow on it's way down to the sea going river
By ditch and hedgerow down the high fields by the hill.
