I stay mostly in the slow lane
When I go from here to there
And people honk and call me names
But I don’t really care
I notice things that they don’t see
Birds singing, flowers growing
I stay mostly in the slow lane
But I get where I’m going.
I stay mostly in the slow lane
As I make my way thru life
And I take responsibility
For my internal strife
I struggle with decisions
I don’t have a five year plan
I stay mostly in the slow lane
But I know who I am.
I stay mostly in the slow lane
While others speed right by
People say I frustrate them
And I can understand why
They always know just what to do
And what color things should be
I stay mostly in the slow lane
Uncertain I’ll always be.
I stay mostly in the slow lane
As I crawl towards my future
My present an enigma
But my past is only too sure
Only certain that I’ll die someday
And what I had for breakfast
I stay mostly in the slow lane
More a habit than a preference.
I stay mostly in the slow lane
While people do persuade me
To move a little left
And go where my will takes me
I may not know my destination
And to arrive I’m in no hurry
I stay mostly in the slow lane
And I do enjoy the journey.
