I Meet A New Challenge Poem by Francis Duggan

I Meet A New Challenge

I meet a new challenge in life every day
The same thing that others of themselves do say
Amongst the poetry purists I don't have a friend
But I will keep penning doggerel till my end.

A poetaster many years beyond my prime
Addicted to doggerel and addicted to rhyme
Without pen and paper how lonely I'd be
The ordinary to some seems extraordinary to me.

Though us humans do not give you the credit you are due
Oh beautiful Nature I do love you true
And though little about you I do seem to know
My wonderment of you only seems to grow.

The birdsong at morning carrying in the breeze
And the sound of the wind as it blows through the trees
The rumble of the tide as it races up the shore
The voice of Nature will live forever more.

My rhymes are pathetic the purists might say
And I meet a new challenge in life every day
And though I am quickly ageing and looking quite gray
I will never give penning of doggerel away.
