I Love The Old Poem by Francis Duggan

I Love The Old

I love the old ballad or old rhyming song
Though to a long gone era they may belong
They bring back old memories of what used to be
Though long out of date in the twenty first century

The old songs that I do remember with joy
That were sung by old singers when I was a boy
Old singers as dead as the songs that they sung
Back in the nineteen fifties when I was quite young

Though few things in time as is known does not last
I love the old rhyming songs of the past
The old rhyming songs of the long ago
Long before time it did become my foe

The old songs that died with the demise of rhyme
Like most things they did become victims of time
Old songs of the past that we do not hear today
And memories of them even fading away

To the distant past they now does belong
The old rhyming ballad and the old rhyming song
Old songs of the nineteen fifties I used to enjoy
Sung by ballad singers when I was a boy.
