I Held My Breath Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

I Held My Breath

Trouble gathered inside my home
My spirit stirred and turned into turmoil
My hope dislodged from its pedestal
My body, mind and soul torn apart
My life scattered into a million pieces
The clouds of darkness had gathered at my doorstep
And it seemed there was nothing I could do
But to wait for the venomous spear to enter my heart
To surrender on the pavement of life
And let my life be consumed by the horrendous wind of time
I was about to let go
But then I remembered that I have been forewarned in my dream
That the vehicle of my life will collapse
Into the abyss of darkness
That my life will be thrown into turmoil
And my spirit will be tested by the agents of darkness
In that moment, all hope returned
A new form of wind gathered inside my heart
My spirit swirled into a whirlwind
And all my troubles were thrown away
My body, mind and soul were sewn together
After all the dust has settled
My spirit was a sparkling river of life
And my life was stitched back onto the fabric of existence
All these happened inside the spiritual realm
The outside world never saw a piece of this action
This is the battle within
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground." Ephesians 6: 12,13.
