I Have Learnt! Poem by G. Akanji Olaniyi

I have learned so much
So much that I may not be able to count
I have learned to be happy
In the face of sadness
I have learned to endure
In the period of pain
I have learned to persevere
In the season of hardship
I have learned to be joyous
Even my mood is down
I have learned to receive the stick
When at the receiving end
I have learned to respect people
Even when I know their limits
I have learned to share
Even when not enough
I have learned to listen
When I think others have their reasons
I have learned to speak
Only when I know that it is worth it
I have learned to give credit
For whatever that is commendable
I have learned to carry my own cross
If I know that I cannot help others with theirs
What else have I learned?
I have learned a great deal
And I am still learning
