I Forgot Poem by Dan Michaelson

I'm scared because my family seems to be slowly withering
Is this what I have to look forward to until my time
Is this what all people have to go through.
I know it is
I have lost many from an early age
I am 'only' 53.
My brothers are much older
Will I lose them soon?
What will it cost the soul?
The loss
The pain
The inevitable 'next one'
Will I be the last?
I surely hope not.
But.....
I have a son.
I have a daughter (they say she's an in-law, I don't buy it)
I have two beautiful grandchildren.
I have wonderful friends
I have a generous and forgiving God
Oh yes, so do those who have gone on before
And when I go, I get to see them.
I will never be alone.
I forgot.
