I Forget But I Remember Poem by Aya Poetess

I Forget But I Remember

Please forgive me, I'm forgetful.
I forgot what we talked about last night
I forgot to close the fridge.
I forgot to water our daffodils.

But I remember:
the way you kiss me
how the musky scent you leave
on my pillow wafts in the air,
how the curl of your lips widens when you smile,
how your chest croons while I lay on it
how your hazel eyes match the first spring shoot of the fir tree

I forget a lot of things.
But I never forget
every detail of you.

details of you
to turn you into poetry.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My gift for my husband who celebrates his birthday today.
He requested that if I'm going to write a poem about him, I should make it metaphor-hyperbole-simile free as much as possible. I tried my best. It wasn't easy.
