I First Heard It As A Boy Poem by Francis Duggan

I First Heard It As A Boy

Rating: 2.8

I first heard it as a boy long before my physical prime
And it has lived in me over decades of time
The years have left me balding and silver gray
But the flute of the curlew i hear it today
Fond memories of what was a lifetime does stay
Above the quiet bog on an evening in May
The flute like song of the curlew melodious and clear
A beautiful sound on a beautiful time of the year
On day's fading light just after sundown
Above the bogland just west of the town
Music from once heard you never again do get wrong
He flute as he fly his beautiful song
The great gift of memory a wonderful thing
It carries one back to a long gone Spring.
