I Choose You Poem by Charlie Bain

I Choose You

I wasn't alone
When I met you
In fact my relationship
Was by years, aged two
I thought I had
My life all planned
A few more years
He would've had my hand

But the night we met
A curve ball was thrown
From that moment on
My future unknown
My mind was torn
Between the two
And soon enough
I was talking to you

You charmed me easy
That I'll admit
But my other relationship
I would not quit
And yet my feelings
Grew and grew
And I had to tell him
About you

With college close
And time so slim
He asked for a break
I agreed with him
Soon enough
It became clear
There would not be
'A few more years'

Return to him
I just could not
Not with my mind
In a twisted knot
So it was decided
He would be free
And in time
You would have me

I hope I am
Well worth the wait
Because you deserve
Someone truly great
I hope I fit
That description true
Because time is up
And I choose you
