I Can'T Wait Till I Fall Asleep Poem by Onyi Ogwumike

I Can'T Wait Till I Fall Asleep

I can’t wait till I fall asleep
Till I fade away
Till the eerie blue glow of the segments in 11, no longer taunt me.
Etching later and later
My eyelids never getting heavy
The realization of an early shake into life haunts me.
Dreading the calling shriek of 5: 00 am.
I can’t wait till I warm up
Till the warm glow in my fingers spread.
Till my whole body is surrounded by a warm hum.
I can’t wait till reality plants her sweet kiss of release on my forehead.
Her red stained lips radiating a single word on my pure bliss “sleep”.
