I used to see you as someone I loved
I used to think you were the stars in the sky
I used to want you to hold me in your arms,
just to hear your heartbeat
I used to love the sound your breathing made
I used to see you in the clouds
on a bright sunny day
As the tears flow down my face
I think to myself the way you used to look in my eyes
and tell me that I was your only one
I used to feel like I could trust you with my life
If I ever jumped off a building or flew through the air like a bird
off of the waterfall into the ocean,
I did it because I knew you would be there to hold my trembling body
You used to soothe my aching heart when I was down
When no one cared about me,
you were there to make everything go away
You used to be the drug that cured my pain
I used to think you were the one,
the one who would never leave me
But I was wrong
When you walk through that door with your bag and the look of satisfaction to save your country
I knew you were never coming back
Until the men in the suites with your dog tag,
came to my front door
I couldn't breathe
I couldn't see anything,
but the man I used to love
The man who went to Iraq
The man who went saved the world from a war that cost him his life
