I Am Ashamed Of Our Nation... Let Me Count The Ways... Poem by Adrian Wait

I Am Ashamed Of Our Nation... Let Me Count The Ways...

Why am I ashamed, let me count the ways
It is the depth of our callous indifference
My heartaches with each normalisation of injustice
So very wise in our own eyes, steeped in Lies
I am ashamed of silent, softminded conformity
Same conspiracy echoes down the corridors of time
Nothing new, repeated lies and deceitful smiles
Conformity prefers the reassuring lies
Soft-minds resist and deny inconvenient facts
I am ashamed of my casual indifference for truth
My convenient excuses to avoid action
Ashamed of walking by on the other side
Wilt thou forgive that sin of self-preservence
I am ashamed of such detached indifference
