I Am A Colored Child.. Poem by Veeraiyah Subbulakshmi

I Am A Colored Child..

Rating: 3.5

a web of lies woven with white thread,
finely arranged with chosen words to spread,
colored capable of stealing and cheating,
what is said not right; but hurt our hearts.

uncertainty and insecurities facing us with no,
fear and kindness, but with vengeance of,
many hundred years since we departed,
from the land we love and the people we care.

struggled as buffaloes day and night,
on new soil of hatred and new found wealth,
often shipped to the Queen's treasury,
to safe keep whatever looted and stole

knocking heard at our streets; foot steps,
nearer to our doors to make every mother
in her feeble motherly heart to palpitate,
to pounce and puncture through her breast

a life of a nightmare being born as a colored,
wherever we are, we are targeted with forefinger's,
great might; the doubtful eyes yield the knives,
a strong man one seems to be, still has a child soul..
