Human Chauvinism In Forest Fire Reporting Poem by Saiom Shriver

Human Chauvinism In Forest Fire Reporting

Reporters might list the number of
wooden homes or metal trailers
saved in a forest fire.
They never give the numbers of
flightless baby birds burned in their
nests, the mothers who stay with them
though they have the option to fly away,
the millions and billions of beings,
mammals, birds, fishes, reptiles,
insects, plants, bushes and trees
set on fire.

Nor do firefighters fighting fires or
those who start controlled
burns seek to rescue nonpets or
nonlivestock animals.
