I hugged someone today, and I thought of you.
It’s been 19 years, but I still thought of you.
Men don’t hug men, but we did, we always did.
I hugged someone today, and I thought of you.
19 years since you reached down to embrace your Father.
I can still smell your cologne, feel your lips on mine.
Why did we hug, my strapping son John? Perhaps I wanted to hold on to you,
To keep you from slipping away.
Holding you on this earth didn’t work,
But I still hold on to those hugs,
They’re all I’ve got to keep away the cold.
