How we were friends
Throughout the years
Some in kindergarten
Warm milk made us peaceful
But when recess had come
We became such rebels
Some in grade school throughout
We learned 'bout poetry
About number zero
And some arithmetic
Fought like gladiators
In Indian ball gym
Some in high school throughout
Protesting Vietnam
Fighting damn censorship
For poetry from heart
Being suspended for
Fighting against their lies
How we were good friends
Throughout the years
Where has the time gone?
The wars haven't ceased
Racism not dead
Mass shootings on rise
So many dying
God is still living!
Liked the message you conveyed in the last two stanzas.
Thank you, Rose Marie. I too like those lines. Sincerest thanks, for your very warm responses and very posiitive feedback!
Death could never separate us from our loved ones and friends if their memories are always in our hearts. Like what this poem has beautifully and tenderly depicted.
So many vivid and lovely memories have played in my mind while reading this amazing and touching poem. Friends have indeed colored our life's journey. They helped shaped what we really are today.
Rose Marie, I'm happy for you that my poem had stirred those memories for you. I've been blessed with a few very good friends who've helped make me who I am!
