How Much Love Can Hurt Poem by Ray Hansell

How Much Love Can Hurt

I witnessed a tragedy the other day
I watched two lovers say goodbye
I watched as they tried to walk away
It seemed like she wanted to leave
But then again she didn't
He appeared to be in a state of shock
She had tears in her eyes
She tried to say goodbye
I heard him ask, why?
As they walked away
They both kept looking back
Both seemed hesitant in leaving
Maybe what I witnessed wasn't a tragedy
Maybe I was watching two people coming of age
Learning the hard way
That love, as good as it can make you feel
Can be most painful when it leaves
She walked away with tears in her eyes
I walked away, not letting her see me cry
