played by heartbeats while drops fall without rain
where mellow rhythms are making my mind sick
like the melodies pounding on my brain

this star-spangled night unleashes songs of the macabre
echoing the saudade beats before the dawn's curtain falls
such a long chorus and bridge to hear the sad denouement
while a deafening silence settles on corners and walls
