Hope Poem by Luke Butler

Hope

We are all human, or so I have been told,
but do we act human? Not to be too bold,
if I am human, then humans are vile,
If I am inhuman, then I shall smile,
As hope, and love, can continue to be human virtues,
Am I human? I ask thy to choose?
I have laughed, loved, lived, and yet
I have lied, hated, and scorned, much more. that you can bet,
But so has all humanity? haven't we?
Haven't we! Villainy is our first nature, that is clear to see,
And yet, that is what makes humanity beautiful, isn't it,
Through all the evil, all the sins, we don't quit,
In the end, humanity is the worst of the world, and the best,
Because we all have hope, that is why I can rest,
knowing when the day is dark, and end is nigh,
that someone, somewhere, believes in a future, and so do I.
