Helpless 1971 Poem by Ray Hansell

Helpless 1971

Now as his end gets near
For the first time in my life
I'm learning about fear

How do you say goodbye
When you're given the news
That your father will soon die

He has an illness
They cannot cure
He's a goner for sure

Inside his fragile body
There is a deadly disease
The pain worsens
It will not cease

Here, my father is dying
His days left are few
There's nothing in this world
That I, or anyone else can do
