Hecuba.(Scene After Benazir's Funeral
Circling the perimeter
TheTV lens scans
As the Chorus mutters
Unframed, inarticulations
Feeling words
Lost in
Hushed babblings.
Drying up.
Centre stage
A nameless woman quietly weeps
Delicately moves her hand
With an ageless elegance
In a gesture of despair.
Her body tells us
Of her loss, of emptiness.
Bending towards her a man tries to comfort
While in the background
Momentous decisions are made,
Politics demand-life must go on.
Disorder ordered.
She thinks only of the grave,
Of loved ones slain
Like Hecuba mourning Troy
Cut off from all by her sorrow.

Margery, this is powerful writing, willed with drama and tension. When I read the title, I was reminded of Hamlet's soliloquy in response to the First Player's speech in Hamlet: '..and all for nothing. For Hecuba. What's Hecuba to him or he to Hecuba that he should weep for her? ' BB? Not sure who he/she is, but then my knowledge of Greek mythology is limited I'm afraid. What I am sure of is that your poem shares to great effect, the dramatic tension of a memorable, stirring scene.
