Happy Poem by Jodie Hardy

Happy

How could anyone wish for this,
To be weak and feeble on the inside
Carrying no external signs of illness
Hiding it all behind a sleepy smile.

Happy, who is happy to be off work sick,
Bound to bed whilst the sun beams out there.
Sleeping away day after day
For goodness knows how long.

Time takes on a whole new meaning,
When, washing up once took 20 minutes needs now be split into manageable segments.
Time comes in fits and starts, one minute becomes 20 in the beat of my heart.

One step at a time.
I'll be taking my medication,
Learning new skills to make the most of the energy I do have.
Most importantly I will try to be patient.

I know that getting frustrated won't get me far,
Neither will beating myself up for things I can't control.
Or taking out my mood on the ones I love,
Or trying to stay awake when my head is feeling rough.

Patience is the key.
Patience is the key.
Patience is the key.
Patience will set me free
