Grace Poem by Rusty Ed Gibson

Grace

I can see the light
your grace has bestowed on me
like a beacon in the night
your love has kept me free

I was just a little boy
where I wasn't supposed to be
I used to roam them old tank ponds
and those fields of golden wheat

your grace protected me
from the snakes I came upon
one bite from that rattler or moccasin
I wouldn't have made it home

Your grace gave my dog
the strength to fight the bull
he seemed to know just what to do
so the fence I could run through

You saved me from those bad men
that weren't going to let me leave
you kept me from that couple
rampaging on their crime spree

You saved me from the speeding truck
when I stepped off the bus
you saved us from the drunk man
who grabbed his old shot gun

You kept us safe that night on the ice
when we were doing ninety
we spun out of control
all the way down the highway

Your grace protected me
from the jealous man with a gun
he was going to shoot me
in front of my young son

Your grace saved me that night
when those guys pulled out a gun
my truck was all they could hit
as I was on the run

I cant remember all the times
that I was cut or stabbed
but I survived them all
with nothing but a scratch

Your grace caught me that day
when I fell off the roof
I rolled into the basket
the crane had somehow moved

Your grace covered me
when cancer came to my door
you helped them remove it
so it wouldn't come back no more

just this last year
when I came down with the flu
your grace lifted me
when I thought that I was through

These are just some of the times
your Grace has protected me
I'm sure there was so much more
that I never did see
