Good To Be Back At Semaphore Poem by Francis Duggan

Good To Be Back At Semaphore

Things have not changed that much since I've been here before
On the wide beach by saltwater the waves lap on the shore
Cars drive along the Esplanade where cyclists cycle up and down
And people are out walking on the wide streets of the Town.

Since I've last been in South Australia 'tis twelve months or maybe more
But things have not seemed to change at all in the Town of Semaphore
At the tables outside the cafes along by the Main Street
People enjoy their tea and coffee and chat as they drink and eat.

Good to be back at Semaphore to inhale the clean sea air
In a World of much pollution places like it are so rare
No factory chimney puffing black smoke and polluting the sky
And weatherwise the climate is mostly warm and dry.

The white backed magpies piping in the green park by the sea
And the magpie lark is calling peewee peewee peewee
And the silver gulls flying above the beach to each other call
Good to be back at Semaphore it hasn't changed at all.
