Glacier Poem by Cameron Gallant

Glacier

Holds the past
Inner layers deep
Sedimentary deposits
Hold in silent peace

Legends of a journey
Held in grand manner
Legends of a moment
Of the ancient land

Cut so deep
Felt in sand and stone
In valleys expanse, the emptiness
Remembrance of a carver ceased

Let in sheet of cold gathering
Grew and formed, condensed
Capsule of a different land
Mile high and mile deep

Timeless, boundless, continuation
Gathers our time to store
Buries far beneath the ages
When to come to next time’s world

Though the years stretch by
And eras go and pass
‘Tis one mass will never change
‘Twill hold the past till viewed again
