Girls In Wheelchairs Poem by Raj Dronamraju

Girls In Wheelchairs

At the part where one is taken down a peg or two
Which for her was when she broke her back in a car accident
Tap her wrist, numb percussion and externalized sensation
I assumed a change in circumstance taught her to be nice

You were more polite because you were crippled in a mountain climbing accident
You didn't fall in love but your arms were stronger from self-propulsion
An electronic wheelchair was too expensive and too hard to get in and out of the car

Legs crossed and unfeeling
Hanging limp off the end of the bed
As she struggles to put on a pair of pantyhose

Couldn't bless the halfway children
Instead she visualizes wooden ramps, turns a light green color
Runs over rude comments and goes for hydrotherapy in a swimming pool
