Gem Of The Sun Poem by Casey Gochnour

Gem Of The Sun

The sky is cloudy overhead, the sun can't be seen,
The screen itself looks to be a depressing scene.
The ground has dirty slush, the wind is cold,
You're starting to realize that you're getting old.

But even though you see all of the lows,
Doesn't mean you can't live with the highs.
Even if your toes have froze,
Doesn't mean there can't be blue skies.

One day the sun will shine bright and then you'll see,
All along it was there, it was just out of sight.
All along it was there, it just couldn't be,
The only one to shine your light.

Joy and happiness comes from within,
And there's no replacement for it.
The sun can make a sunny day, but you won't win,
If you go a day without it and quit.

Be the very light you're looking for every day,
Be the sun other people need, so they say,
"Where were you yesterday? I missed you."
Love like that won't lead astray.

But soon they will learn to live without a sun,
And although it might not be so fun loving with none,
It's a lesson you've learned yourself on your own,
Something you've known, this joy that you've grown.

And once again they will look to you as their sun,
Old and wrinkled, life is just about done.
They never realized how much you meant to them,
You were a jewel in the rough,
A glistening gem.
