Fruition

The fruition of my dreams
Shall never be - with you.
Yet why should I remain sleepless
Without you?

The fruition of my existence
Shall never be - with you.
Yet why should I remain restive
Without you?

The fruition of my quest
Shall never be - with you.
Yet why should I remain faltering
Without you?

The fruition of my fecundity
Shall never be - with you.
Yet why should I remain sterile
Without you?

The fruition of my selfhood
Shall never be - with you.
Yet why should I remain imperfect
Without you?

But,
The fruition of my essence
Shall never be - without
My fusion with you.
So I must forever remain suffering
Without you.

poet Katharine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
